Only 6 percent are running with HDTV, even though they are HD-ready TV

Best picture is called a survey is conducted by SIFO on behalf of Canal Digital. It shows that 45 percent of Swedes have an HD-ready TV , but that only 6 percent use them to view HD broadcasts.
Many Swedes have given up their old thick-TV with a new flat screen TV in the form of LCD or plasma. The vast majority of these are HD-ready, which means they can display high resolution. But there are few who use it here because it requires an HD digital box and access to television channels broadcasting in HDTV. If you connect an HD-Ready for a standard digital TV box, it is not certain that you get better quality. In fact, it often gets worse.
- Without HD box and channels, the experience is in many cases worse than the old thick-TV We must improve the entire industry to tell what is needed for HDTV.HD is here to stay, but knowledge is still too low, "says Mats Almgren, CEO of Canal Digital Sweden.
The survey shows that many are interested in getting a HD box. One in four respondents say they plan to buy one. 56 percent say they do not know which, according to SIFO and Digital Canal points to poor information about what an HD box does. 51 percent say it's mostly movie they want to see in high definition format.
- There is undoubtedly a great interest in HDTV in Sweden and many have already taken the large investment in the purchase of an HD-ready TV. It is the last step, box and channels, we must improve on to explain, "says Jenny Pedersén PR manager at Canal Digital Sweden.
Survey Best picture will be conducted annually to monitor developments in the Swedish market.
